I know there are loads of fashion shows on tv at the moment and I’ve watched them all - and maybe there’s a bit over fashion over kill at the moment but I’m quite excited about Twiggy’s Fashion Trade. It’s is a new 3 part series for BBC2 which taps into the latest trend for clothes swapping parties! I’ve never been to a clothes swapping party - not officially but I have swapped clothes with friends. Anyway so many of us have wardrobes full great piece that we never wear for one reason or another - so why not swap them for something better & get expert advice at the same time! I think the show airs in September.

Singapore Fashion Festival 2008
Posted by Rebekah on February 23rd, 2008

We all know about London, Paris, Milan and New York fashion week, but there are actually so many other fashion weeks or days in the world and they’re quite exciting to check out. It’s important & interesting to see what’s happening in other parts of the world. I know that fashion is global but sometimes it feels quite insular, we all know about the global mega brands but I just love and want to know who else is there.
Lately I keeping hearing about Singapore…It’s some where I’ve wanted to visit for quite a while. Singapore Fashion Festival 08 (SFF) is a ten day festival from March 28th to April 6th, 2008 at The Tent @ Orchard, Ngee Ann City, Civic Plaza. The catwalk theatre was built for the SFF and accommodates up to 1000 guests with a 60 foot catwalk, and features a 8-metres LED screen.
Opening the fashion gala is Matthew Williamson (he’s also the Creative Director at Pucci). The theme for this year’s Singapore Fashion Festival is ‘Legends & Rising Stars’. These are some of the rising stars: from India, fashion designer Ritu Kumar, from Singapor Tan Yoong, Thomas Wee and Qiu Hao from China. The closing show is cK Calvin Klein S/S 2008 with Creative Director Kevin Carrigan. I love that the SFF is also promoting the models that will be at the festival: Erin O’Connor, Emma Pei, Lili Shen, Kiki and Zhang Xu Chao! When a smaller city does a fashion show, it’s an event for the whole city - so the atmosphere around the festival is heightened!

Marie Proctor and Charlene Campbell of Annazbell. I went to a gathering at the Funky Buddha to celebrate the relaunch of Annazbell; I think it’s really hard to start an good e-zine but Annazbell has a head start and lots of experience as they originally launch in 2004.

PPQ & Nokia Arte Mobile Party
Posted by Rebekah on January 30th, 2008

PPQ on Conduit Street.

There are so many people in fashion that are always trying to look hip and just end up looking pretentious and then there is the group of girls who are just super cool without trying and these four girls truly are the super cool!
Model:Lianna Fowler

Another cool girl from Pop magazine wearing a great coat, it’s her grandmothers) and I love it with the white shirt, it’s strong and sexy! Lots of fur at this party!

Alvin - a mens & womens wear designer stocked at Patrica Fields, with a model wearing his designs.

PPQ celebrated the new Nokia 8800 Arte and Sapphire phone; this is Rihanna the PR from Nokia!

Loved this girl from Vice Magazine!

Great eye make up -very rock and roll!

Super cute Jessica Bumpus & Leisa Barnett of Vogue.com

Photographers waiting outside to get pictures of the rock and roll fashionistas!

Two very cool girls: Charlotte Duck Condé Nast’s mobile editor and Phoebe Frangoul of Glamour.com
PPQ is Amy Molyneaux’s and Percy Parker’s label. You might wonder what makes this label so unusually hip, is it the girly dresses, the cool prints, the drain pipe jeans? Or is it that PPQ commissioned illustrator Hannah Bay, whose artistic career began in record cover design, to create a series of pen and ink drawings that are installed in their Flagship store? Fashion and music belong together but so often it’s not genuine and the one thing about rock and roll is it’s suppose to be genuine! It just makes sense the PPQ’s love for music and fashion is a true marriage, how many fashion houses can say they have a record label, 1-2-3-4- Records produces glam electro-house music - no wonder the music was so great at the party!
PPQ is stocked on Conduit street -their flagship store (47 Conduit Street, London W1S 2YP), in Liberty, Souvenir, asos.com, Ztampz in Hong Kong; Capital L in Sydney and over sixty stockists in Japan.

I styled Rosabella Gregory last year for her PR shots. Her song “Days” just made “Record of the Day” editor’s choice!

Gemma Ward -The Black Balloon
Posted by Rebekah on January 2nd, 2008
Some people feel that actresses are taking over the model industry, but models are taking over the film industry! There has always been a bit of a power struggle as some people argue that it cost less to put actors on the covers of magazines and that celebrities sell more magazines. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to seeing The Black Balloon, which stars Gemma Ward in her first major film role! The role was created especially for her, how cool is that! The Black Balloon is out early this year.

Nina Taylor - Hand Supermodel!
Posted by Rebekah on December 6th, 2007

I was surprised to open up The London Paper yesterday and see some images that I styled a few months ago. Nina Taylor, the hand supermodel was just lovely and she’s well known for being Kate Moss’ hand & foot double in the Rimmel ads. Teresa of course, is brilliant and has painted everyone’s nails including Victoria Beckham’s. I’ve always been quite self-conscious about my hands (especially in the presence of a hand supermodel!) as they get so dry from touching fabrics and lugging bags all over the place. I really felt like keeping them hidden during this shoot but Teresa let me know that they weren’t so bad - she has a way of making you feel good about yourself and your hands and of course I got to benefit from her expert advice!
This is an image of Teresa working on Nina’s hands at the shoot!

Nina Taylor has an intriguing site coming soon, called Famous Hands.

Advertorials & Models
Posted by Rebekah on October 18th, 2007
I love the buying and selling of clothes and I really want people to enjoy what they are wearing. Advertising is quite interesting as you might have a very specific brief to work to, or just a small selection of clothes, but either way it’s my job to make the clothes fit well. Of course if you have a great model 80% of your work is done. It’s all about casting!!!

Flux Shoot
Posted by Rebekah on August 7th, 2007
I love shooting for Flux - they are my favourite shoots. The editors at the magazine are great: they don’t just like something because it’s trendy or popular they like it because they like it.
I worked with photographer & singer Haidée Augusta! She was so sweet, she actually packed a picnic lunch for us! You can listen to her on myspace.

It rained for most of the shoot… but we got all the shots and they look good!!!

Hip London Shoot
Posted by Rebekah on November 13th, 2006
Worked with 2 new assistants today! People don’t realize how much work is to be done on a shoot day. Of course most of the stylist’s work is done before the shoot day. You meet with the photographer and make-up artist and hair stylist, you might make a mood board, visit Pr’s, call in the clothes and of course you have to find the right model for the shoot!
If the stylist work isn’t prepped before the shoot day she’s in trouble! For the assistants there are hundreds of little things from organizing the rails, to ironing all the shirts, keeping track of the credits and making cups of tea! Then of course after the shoot day all the returns need to be organized and sent back…
