Zink Canada Interview - School of Rock

Posted by Rebekah on October 5th, 2008

Well, I have to say I feel very hip seeing myself in one of my favourite magazines! This is from the autumn issue of Zink Canada.

When Zink magazine said they’d like to interview me I was quite delighted and they asked for a picture of me so I sent them a typical headshot. Then they asked for something more editorial…hmm…I thought it would be fun to work with a Canadian team who live in London so Rachel Jones did my hair & make up and Christopher Dadey did the photography. It was quite fun doing the shoot for Zink although it was very very weird being on the other side of the camera. We shot around Carnaby Street -one of my favourite areas of London and even had a nice lunch in one of the cafes. I was a bit uncomfortable at first but as the day progresses I felt more at ease.  Just dressing up was so much fun. I’ve always wanted to wear one of Manish Arora’s dresses but never felt that I had the right occasion; I felt like a super hero when I wore the sunglasses and the pink & silver dress!

Daisy de Villeneuve - Fashion Quote

Posted by Rebekah on September 27th, 2008

Daisy de Villeneuve is the type of artist that once you start to recognize her work you’ll see it everywhere.

Her illustrations have a unique child like quality to them: I just love them!!! She’s designed Topshop’s quirky shoeboxes, customized Moet & Chandon bottles for Colette’s 10th anniversary, designed for Nike, the V&A Museum, has published 2 books and has done hundreds of other things. Every month you’ll see her work in one of the major fashion magazines.

So it’s not surprising that the Gap featured her in their Autumn Winter campaign and she will also be in the Holiday 2008 campaign for Christmas!

I asked Daisy de Villeneuve, a true fashion industry insider for a quote to use during my Viktor & Rolf fashion talk at the Barbican.

In your opinion, what’s the best way for someone to create their own distinct personal style?

The best way for someone to create their own distinct personal style is to be unique. Be original in your clothing choices, do not follow trends as you can end up looking like everyone else. I always like to take inspiration from other decades & mix my clothing to include vintage, designer & high street.

M·A·C Cult of Cherry & Erin Fetherston Fashion Quote

Posted by Rebekah on August 31st, 2008

Erin Fetherston & M·A·C Cult of Cherry

The Cult of Cherry really makes me want to have something in this colour - lipstick, gloss, nail polish, a dress, anything just something…the video seems to stir something inside of me, a longing for a deep rich colour...

I asked designer & super cool girl Erin Fetherston - a fashion industry insider for a quote to use during my Viktor & Rolf fashion talk at the Barbican.

In your opinion, what’s the best way for someone to create their own distinct personal style?

Personal style should be a reflection of personality. I think someone’s style is truly distinctive if it communicates something specific about it’s wearer; beliefs, values, tastes, background. And it never hurts to add in something that nobody else will have. - Erin Fetherston

Amelia’s Magazine Quote of the Day

Posted by Rebekah on August 17th, 2008

Amelia’s Magazine is a very cool independent magazine. It’s takes a lot of work for a magazine to do things on their own terms! That’s why I asked Amelia’s magazine - fashion industry insiders for quotes to use during my Viktor & Rolf fashion talk at the Barbican.

In your opinion, what’s the best way for someone to create their own distinct personal style?

Amelia Gregory, Editor, Amelia’s Magazine

For me the only people who have a distinct personal style are those who have absolutely no regard for what other people think about the way they dress, it being merely an outward expression of a strong personality and a creative mind. They are unlikely to follow trends, instead preferring to find their own way of dressing in a sea of similar looks – this, somewhat ironically, means that they are likely to kickstart the very trends they steer clear of.

Melinda Neunie, Fashion and Beauty Editor, Amelia’s Magazine

It’s impossible to create a self-image using preconceived ideas. Your discomfort can be seen through even the most expensive of designer gowns, should you attempt to construct a persona that doesn’t belong to you. People that are noted for their distinct personal style are often those whose clothing is almost an accessory to their personality or attitude to life.  To a genuine trendsetter, that bold pair of fuchsia heels isn’t used to denote wealth or forward thinking style, they’re merely the best footwear to compliment a love for all things bright and colourful.
